Speech

Remember back, oh 6 months ago, when AP was evaluated by Early Intervention for speech but didn't qualify because it was too early? Well, she is now 3 and was able to have her formal evaluation through the school system yesterday. I was worried about how they would evaluate her when she tends to...have her own ideas about the way things should be done. I think that overall she did well considering how long they expected her to sit still and identify pictures and repeat words (an hour). There were definitely times when her feisty side reared it ugly head. She and the therapist had a little meeting of the minds over whether she was going to sit on her bottom or on her knees. AP did eventually obey, but it was not without some convincing. At one point AP pushed a little chair right over to the water fountain in the room, climbed up, and got herself a drink. I though the therapist was going to have a heart attack! Apparently, standing in chairs is very wrong in school. Which makes sense, but it didn't occur to me when she was doing it and I felt like the therapist over reacted just a little bit. It was weird to me to see her talk very sternly to AP. I mean I'm the mom and I was standing right there, but I also get that we were in her school and have to obey the rules. So, back to the evaluation...She definitely qualifies and we go back in a few weeks to talk about what that means.

I Still Need That Manual

Sometimes the questions and topics that the kiddos bring up catch me so off guard. I never feel prepared or like I have the right answer, maybe all parents feel like that? or maybe it's just me. Anyway, this morning on the way to school, my barely 3 year old says out of the blue "Who is God?". I was thinking, ok let's see how we can sum this up so that a barely 3 year old might understand it. I said "He made the world and He lives in heaven and He loves us very much." C goes on to tell me that God doesn't make the roads or the cars or the buildings. He's right, but how do you explain on his level that God does make the technology and abilities? Then C gets distracted and AP starts saying that she wants to see God. I try to explain that we can't see Him, but we know He is there. She is straining to look out the window up at the sky. Then she starts crying and saying that she wants God to go to a hotel with her! That is when this momma bailed and changed the subject! I need to regroup and address this topic when I'm not driving :)

The King of Birthdays

Today our baby boy turned six! I can't even put into words how old that makes me feel or how badly I'd like to just freeze time where it is. There are days, like today, when it seems like the years are flying by. Seriously, how did our baby become six? Anyway, it is what it is. He is an awesome happy six year old boy and he had a very busy day!

He woke up thinking that because he was six today that he was going to get to go to kindergarten...today. I'm not sure how we led him to believe that, but we had to get that cleared up. He then found that I had finished icing the cookies for his class. His school mascot is a Cougar, so he requested Cougar Paw cookies to share with his classmates.
His special cookie had a 6 on it.
Then it was time to open an early present, excuse daddy in his pj's.

Then Hubs and I sang Happy Birthday while C blew out the candle in his banana oatmeal- his favorite breakfast :)

I went to his class for snacktime today. He got to wear a birthday crown. As he put it on he said "this makes me feel like I am the King of Birthdays!"

Then his class sang to him and he got 6 birthday hugs from his teacher.

I have no pictures of him sharing his paw cookies with his friends because he requested that I pass them out for him :) As I was leaving he gave me a big hug and said "thank you momma for all this". (melt my heart) After school he came home to find his other birthday present, notice he is still the king!

A few days before his birthday we told him that he could pick anywhere he wanted eat today. He told me that he wanted to eat at home and guess what he wanted...

So while I was inside cooking up Spidey, he tried out his new pitching machine. Check out his eye on the ball!

Then at dinner, C got to eat off the special day plate. I made this at one of those paint your own pottery places before we even had kiddos.

Then it was off to baseball practice. C took baseball cupcakes to share with his team and they all sang to him again!

After bath, C wrote a quick note to one of his teachers.

Then it was book and bed time for two very worn out kiddos!

This was C's prayer tonight- "Dear God, thank you for my birthday and my beautiful world." Can I get an Amen?

He Scored and I Scored

C had his 4th game of the season yesterday. I can't say that our team is doing very well, but the score is not what matters right? The exciting part for us was that C scored again! He just gets so excited when he gets to run the bases. He ALMOST got tagged before he crossed the home plate, but, according to C "I was running super fast."

Of course, snack time is the favorite part of the game :)
AP was sporting her little Riverdog shirt. I had to get some pics of the kiddos in their matching gear. It doesn't get much cuter than that!

And I scored because I won this amazing blog facelift. Remember the Fabulous Giveaway that I blogged about? Well, I won one of the packages! I never win stuff like that, but I did and I loved working with Jen at Jen Gets Fancy. There are so many super cute kits to choose from. You should definitely check it out.

Hey Catch

Monday night at C's baseball game he got moved in from the outfield to play catcher at the last minute because our regular catcher wasn't there. I was so proud of the way he just went with the flow, even though he had never played that position before. He had no idea that he was supposed to catch every pitch and throw it back, but it ended up being so much fun for him! It kept his attention much better than the outfield does. It was funny when the other coach would say "hey catch" talking to C about something, C had no idea that he was talking to him because he didn't know he was "catch" :) Then when he got up to bat he hit the ball, dropped the bat, and ran! (If you have been following his season then you know that he had a tendency hit and freeze). He made it all the way to third before they called the game because of lightening in the area. It was a very short game, but he is still talking about how much fun he had! We are looking forward to two games on Saturday if it doesn't rain.
