The Big Race AKA People Take This VERY Seriously

Monday night was the big pinewood derby race. Hubs is a pinewood derby veteran. He actually found his car from about 30 years ago and AP got to race that one.

This was the official weigh in station and where we first realized that we were in over our heads. People are serious about some pinewood derby!! The car can weigh up to 5 ounces. In my mind, that meant "do not exceed 5 ounces". But, apparently, to everyone else that meant "make certain that your car weighs EXACTLY 5 ounces or you don't even have a shot".

Our car weighed 4.3 ounces. The lady basically asked us if we still wanted to race. Are you kidding me? We've been working on this car for a month, it was going to race even if it weighed 1 ounce :)

The kiddos were just happy to be racing :) They didn't care that we weren't professionals.
(But mark my words, we will be professionals next year!)

Each car raced in 4 heats. Then there must be a formula to decide the top 10. Here is C getting ready for his first heat.

And guess what??? Our didn't-weigh-exactly-five-ounces car came in 1st!!!!!

Here is AP waiting for her/daddy's car to come down the track. Her car came in 3rd all 4 times. That's not bad for a 30 year old car!

C's car ended up coming in 3rd in his last 3 heats. He didn't end up in the top 10, but he felt like a winner and that's all that mattered!

The Scouts are a great organization. Maybe Charlie will become an Eagle Scout like his dad.
