C Stole the Show

We made a spur of the moment decision to go spend the afternoon at the zoo today. It was a lot cooler outside than it has been lately, which made for perfect zoo weather. The animals seemed a little more lively, too. They are usually so hot that they just lay there and sleep. The cougars were playing in their little waterfall and we have never even seen them awake before. I left my camera battery at home, but snapped a few pictures on the phone. We were able to see two animal shows today. The first one was a bird show. C got to go on stage! He raised his hand to be a volunteer with no urging from us. He got to go down and throw grapes to a bird that caught them in his beak. C was so cute up there!
AP spent some time riding on daddy's shoulders to get a better view.
The last show we saw was "animals of the wild". My favorite animal was this little guy. How cute is he? He is a two-toed sloth. He kept leaning his head way back to try to look at the audience upside down.
While we were at the zoo, we missed a chance to meet M who is just a month away from bringing home little E from Kyrg! Her son was playing football in our town. We will meet someday!

I Was Too Busy Rockin Out, Mom!

That was C's answer to me when I asked about the huge mess in the playroom. He was telling the truth! Hope you all had a rockin' Friday night, too.

(if you can't tell, AP is dancing her little heart out!)

Picture Day

Today was picture day at C's school. I may be biased, but I think he was the cutest one there :)

Can you tell she does not want a hug from her brother?

I have shared here some of the "deep thoughts" from C, mainly so I can have this to look back on since I'm really bad about writing things down. Most of those thoughts are from our rides in the car. C talks non-stop in the car. Sometimes he is talking to me, sometimes to himself, sometimes to things outside the car, but he he is always talking. His school is about 30-40 minutes from our house so we have lots of time to "talk" every day. Yesterday he yelled "mom!" like he had had some sort of revelation. When I gave him my attention he said "You chose me to be your one and only son, just like God did Jesus!"

What Teachers Are Made For

Yesterday when I picked C up from school he was sporting a bandaid on each knee. He went on to tell me all about how he fell on the playground and his teacher took him inside to get cleaned up and put bandaids on his boo-boos. I told him that I was glad that Ms S was there to take care of him when he was hurt. He said "That's what teachers are made for, to take care of bloody children."

Gotcha Day It Is!

So yesterday marked 4 years home with our amazing little guy. I think this is the first year that he really "got" it, he really understood what we were celebrating. As we were making a cake yesterday afternoon we were talking about his special day. I asked him what he wanted to call the day. We had sort of referred to it as family day or adoption day in the past years. Something about Gotcha day didn't sit right with me, but I never could pin down what it was. Anyway, C said "since it was the day to got me, we could call it "got me" day". Seriously? So I asked how "got you" sounds and he said "great"! So even though I had somewhat avoided the term Gotcha, C reinstituted it yesterday, and if that's what he likes, that's what it shall be. We had a great Gotcha Day. After naptime, C helped me make his special cake.
he is letting one of our dogs lick the batter that fell on his toes :)

Then we took the cake with us out to have some fun on the lake. There was a world of difference between C last year on the lake and this year. He had absolutely no fear! He went tubing and then dove off the tube and into the lake. I almost couldn't believe my eyes. He was so afraid to swim in the lake last year. He was doing all kinds of jumps and flips off the back of the boat. He was upset when we made him get out to eat.

blurry, but C wanted me to take a pic of his backstroke

AP, of course, was her little dare devil self. She went tubing, too. She jumped off the back of the boat to daddy over and over.

We all had lots of fun and came home super tired.
