Trapping Lucky

Last week we were given another family assignment. Actually it was a choice of 2 assignments. We could decorate a rainbow or make a leprechaun trap. Of course, C chose the one that sounds a lot harder to do! Our instructions told us that we had to have a moving part, something to attract the leprechaun, and something to lure them in. We were also told that leprechauns like shiny things, gold, rainbows, and that they disobey any rules. We went to the good ole Dollar Tree for inspiration. C found a leprechaun hat and decided that we could trap him under that. So we went home with hat in hand to figure out a way to lure, attract, and trap Lucky. We covered a piece of cardboard with aluminum foil and decided that would attract him to our trap. Then C cut out pieces of gold paper to look like gold and glued them in a path leading under the hat. Then he built a contraption with his Tinkertoys that we attached to the front of the hat. We decided that the leprechaun would probably run into the Tinker stick, knock it down while he was trying to get the gold, and trap himself. Just in case that didn't work, we attached a string so that C could pull the hat down on the leprechaun if he needed to. C added a sign, knowing the Lucky would disobey it :)
