Trapping Lucky

Last week we were given another family assignment. Actually it was a choice of 2 assignments. We could decorate a rainbow or make a leprechaun trap. Of course, C chose the one that sounds a lot harder to do! Our instructions told us that we had to have a moving part, something to attract the leprechaun, and something to lure them in. We were also told that leprechauns like shiny things, gold, rainbows, and that they disobey any rules. We went to the good ole Dollar Tree for inspiration. C found a leprechaun hat and decided that we could trap him under that. So we went home with hat in hand to figure out a way to lure, attract, and trap Lucky. We covered a piece of cardboard with aluminum foil and decided that would attract him to our trap. Then C cut out pieces of gold paper to look like gold and glued them in a path leading under the hat. Then he built a contraption with his Tinkertoys that we attached to the front of the hat. We decided that the leprechaun would probably run into the Tinker stick, knock it down while he was trying to get the gold, and trap himself. Just in case that didn't work, we attached a string so that C could pull the hat down on the leprechaun if he needed to. C added a sign, knowing the Lucky would disobey it :)

We're Just Better

I am revealing my old age by telling all of the internets that I graduated from high school in 1995. Yes, FIFTEEN years ago. I feel so old as I type that. Oh well. Anyway, last Saturday my high school unveiled their new softball locker room. What we would have given to have a locker room back then! The alumni were invited to come back and see the new facility and play a game against the current team. Um, no thanks, to the playing the current team part. They look SO much better then I felt like we were! I think it would have been a danger to my health to get out on that field. But, I loved going back there and seeing how far they've come. I really enjoyed being with most of my teammates again, too. There were 6 of us from my class that were on the team and 5 of us were there on Saturday! Yep, sporting our pullovers from our junior year :)
Want to see what we looked like together in 1995?
My how times have changed. And for the title of this post, our class t-shirt in 95 said "The Class of 95, we're just better than you" We needed to work on our humility :)

Double Threes

Wednesday I turned 33 on the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the year. That's a lot of 3's :) I had a great birthday that started with an IEP meeting for AP in which she was officially "dismissed" from speech therapy! I joked that that was the best birthday present ever. According to their tests, she is understandable 95% of the time. When she started she was understandable 59% of the time. And it's true, her speech therapist definitely did an awesome job with her. She will be retested this fall. At that time she will be four and the standards are a little higher, so she may or may not meet criteria to start again.

After that meeting, I got a call on my cell from Edible Arrangements and they had this waiting for me! Isn't that the cutest thing ever? My sister sent it to me and it was GOOD. I was told by C that since I'm his mom that I HAD to share my fruit.

That night we met up with more family at Fridays for a great birthday dinner. This picture makes me laugh, it looks like C is trying to choke me and AP is afraid of something!

Thursday morning was the big Fun Run Fundraiser at C's school. AP and I went to watch C and cheer him on. Once we got there, AP decided it was too loud and was a grouch the whole time time C was running. She cheered up when she got to run a victory lap with him, though :)

This is C and his pal E getting ready to run.

The victory lap
C made it around 32 times! He ended up being sponsored for 9 dollars per lap. That's a lot of money for his school!
Thursday night AP had her long awaited first soccer practice! She was all smiles and energy when we got there.

Then as soon as the coach started talking to her she just stood there. She listened, but refused to run around with the other kiddos. It was almost as if she thought she was too cool or that he wasn't really talking to her. I'm not sure what to do with her little self! Eventually she decided it was too cold and wouldn't even stand with the group. I have a feeling she wants to play just for the snacks and the uniform.... But, in her defense it was really cold. Maybe when it warms up so will she!

The Green Eggs and Ham

It is official. The crazy busyness is upon us. C had his first baseball practice of this spring season last night. It was cold, there were tears, but he says he is excited about heading back out to practice again on Saturday!
Then Thursday AP has her first ever soccer practice. She has literally been looking forward to this since she was old enough to walk and watch her brother play. Who knows if she will even like it? But, she is oh SO excited about her pink ball, pink cleats, and pink shin guards (the shoes and guards were passed down from a friend, Thanks Emma!).

This Thursday at C's school they are having their spring fundraiser in the form of a FunRun. The kiddos were given "scripts" to say to their friends and family. It was something along the lines of "Will you sponsor me for every lap I run?" C was SO embarrassed to say it to anybody. He would giggle and say "now, Mom?" But, he did round up 8 pledges. It is funny how motivated he was by all the silly prizes they get for getting pledges. Most of the prizes, he already has at home, but these prizes were different and MUCH cooler. He was most excited about getting this hairball. And, last but not least, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!! In celebration of his birthday, the kiddos at C's school are reading Seuss books, watching Horton, and dressing as their favorite Seuss character. When I asked C what he wanted to dress as he said he wanted to be the green eggs and ham. He doesn't like to make it easy :) This mommy was running low on time and creative juices, so this is all I could muster, but I think it turned out pretty cute.
C loved it! When he looked at himself in the mirror this morning he said "Man, I look cute!" And his mommy agrees :)
