Christmas Spirit

Saturday night the kiddos and I met Boompa and Baba for dinner and a movie. We went to see Madagascar 2. Now I had heard from other parents that there were a few "sexual innuendos" in the movie, but I didn't think my kiddos would catch them even if there were. I must say that I didn't catch them either. The hippos were trying to woo each other in the mud, but it didn't go any further than that. I'm sure Animal Planet is way more graphic. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that they said butt a lot. We are trying to keep that out of our vocabulary at home. Overall, I think it was a fun movie. Our dinner at Mimi's was even better. Thanks Boompa and Baba for the treat!

After that fun, the kiddos and I went to do a little Christmas shopping. As soon as we entered the store, C spotted this.

Apparently, in the 4 and 5 year old crowd this is really cool. He immediately started saying "I really want that". I explained that we weren't buying gifts for him, and went on to explain that Christmas was about giving gifts to other people. I asked him if he thought his friend G might like to have that wondertool. I told him that we could buy it for G, but we weren't buying presents for ourselves. He said that he didn't want G to have it and that he really wanted it. We continued our shopping and as we were getting in line to check out C said "I think I want to buy that for G." I was so proud! We went back and C put it in our cart for his friend. He even told that cashier that "We are buying presents for our friends because it is Christmas." That's the spirit! (the rest of the story is that I was so proud of him for choosing the gift for his friend that I snuck one in our cart under our other purchases and he will have one under the tree, too :)
